A BPO job description in the Philippines is written in a vocabulary the industry assumes you already know. Listings ask for a CSR, an associate or a specialist when they mean an agent, promise a path to SME or QA without saying what either does all day, and describe a team leader as someone who "does not spend more than 20% of time performing the work supervised". This page reads that vocabulary off the listings themselves. On 25 September 2026 the BPOAI job board carried 791 open positions across 540 distinct listings. Of those, 137 listings were agent-level customer-facing roles, 45 were team leader or supervisor roles, seven were quality analyst or evaluator roles, and exactly two carried the words subject matter expert in the title. Every duty below is quoted from an employer's own posting, every experience bar is the one the posting states, and the pay figures are Indeed's Philippine averages read the same day, with their sample sizes.
The ladder, and how many seats each rung has
Titles differ between employers but the ladder does not. The first rung is the agent, whatever the listing calls it. The specialist tier sits beside it rather than above it: subject matter experts, quality analysts, trainers and workforce or real-time analysts, all of them jobs that take an experienced agent off the queue without giving them a team. Then leadership: team leader, sometimes supervisor, over a team of agents; operations manager over several teams; and site or account leadership above that. The call center salary guide puts monthly bands on each rung. What it cannot show is how the rungs are staffed, and the board can.
- Agent level: 137 listings, 282 openings, 21 employers.
- Team leader or supervisor: 45 listings, 66 openings, 14 employers.
- Workforce and real-time management: 26 listings, 9 employers.
- Operations manager and senior operations manager: 11 listings, 4 employers.
- Trainer: 9 listings, 3 employers.
- Quality analyst or evaluator: 7 listings, 4 employers, plus 6 quality supervisor and manager roles at 2 employers.
- Subject matter expert: 2 listings, 2 employers.
The shape matters for anyone planning a career rather than a job. Roughly one leadership seat is advertised for every three agent seats, but the specialist titles are barely advertised at all, and the reason is in the sections below: most of them are filled from the floor, not from the job board.
Agent, CSR, associate, specialist: five names for the first rung
Search for a call center agent job and the first thing the board shows is that nobody calls it that. Among the 137 agent-level listings the phrase "call center agent" appears in zero titles. "Representative" appears in 34 titles from 15 employers, "specialist" in 34 from 10, "customer care" in 31 from 3, "associate" in 20 from 6, "customer service representative" spelled out in 17 from 9, "agent" on its own in 16 from 3 (iQor, Acquire BPO and Bill Gosling Outsourcing), "customer service associate" in 9 from 2 (Foundever and ISTA Solutions) and the abbreviation CSR in 5 from 2. Concentrix advertises a Customer Care Specialist and a Customer Service Advisor, Foundever a Customer Service Associate, Genpact an Associate, Customer Care, and iQor simply an Agent, and one iQor listing carries all three of its own grades in a single title, "Agent/Senior Agent/Specialist". These are the same job.
A csr call center job description, then, is the agent's. Concentrix's Customer Care Specialist listing for Bridgetowne, read on 25 September 2026, states it in ten lines under "Essential Functions/Core Responsibilities": "Ensure service delivered to our customers meets contractual Key Performance Indicator ('KPIs')", "Clarify customer requirements; probe for understanding, use decision-support tools and resources to appropriately provide resolution to the customer", "Listen attentively to customer needs and concerns; demonstrate empathy while maximizing opportunity to build rapport with the customer", "Greet customers in a courteous, friendly, and professional manner using agreed upon procedures", "Maintain basic knowledge of client products and/or services", "Prepare complete and accurate work including appropriately notating accounts as required", "Offer additional products and/or services", "Track, document and retrieve information in call tracking database" and "Respond to customer inquiries by referring them to published materials, secondary sources or more senior staff". iQor's Agent listing for Santa Rosa compresses the same job to "Answer inbound calls and greet customers with energy and enthusiasm", "Understand and strive to meet or exceed call center metrics while providing excellent and consistent customer service", "Meet department productivity and quality standards" and "Strive for first call resolution and take true ownership of customer needs and issues".
The bar is the lowest on the ladder. Concentrix asks for a "High school diploma with three to six months of relevant experience preferred"; iQor requires a "High school diploma, G.E.D., Trade/Vocational School certificate or equivalent" and says customer service experience "is preferred", then adds the condition that actually decides who lasts: "You have the flexibility to work any shift, including nights and especially weekends." Concentrix even labels the rung in its own career framework: "Starter without sustained metric performance levels." Pay: Indeed's Philippine average for a customer service representative is ₱21,224 a month from 38.1 thousand reported salaries, and for a call center representative ₱21,097 from 15.4 thousand, both updated 20 September 2026. What an agent's day and scorecard actually contain, hour by hour, is in the call center agent job description; how to get the seat with nothing on your resume yet is in how to get a call center job with no experience.
Subject matter expert: a designation, not a vacancy
SME is the title agents hear about most and see advertised least. Two listings on the whole board carry it: VBP Back Office Solutions in Cebu, a hybrid role asking for two years of experience, and Atticus Advisory Solutions, a remote NetSuite finance SME asking for five. Yet the words subject matter expert appear in the body text of 21 listings, because the SME is written into other people's job descriptions rather than advertised as one. Concentrix's team leader listing includes "Provide subject matter expertise in handling escalated customer calls as needed", and ISTA Solutions' medical scribes team lead asks for "at least 1 year Team Lead / Supervisory / SME experience", treating the two as interchangeable proof of seniority.
The VBP listing is the fullest description of the job on the board and it matches the floor version: "Act as a go-to technical escalation point for frontline teams", "Provide targeted coaching, feedback, and learning recommendations based on review outcomes", "Contribute to development of technical playbooks, guidance notes, and best-practice examples", and analysing recurring "issues and error trends" to recommend fixes. Strip the finance context and that is what an SME does on a call center account: take the questions the agents cannot answer, coach, document, and spot the pattern behind repeated errors. On most accounts it is a designation with an allowance, earned by tenure and quality scores on one account, and it is the classic first step off the phones. Indeed's Philippine average for a subject matter expert is ₱33,929 a month, but from only 52 reported salaries across every industry, updated 17 September 2026, so treat it as a rough marker rather than a BPO figure. The SME meaning in BPO article covers the pathway from agent to SME in full, and the glossary entry has the short definition.
Quality analyst job description in BPO
A quality analyst job description in BPO is the most precisely written on the ladder, because the job is itself about measurement. iQor's Quality Analyst - Call Center listing, posted for Talisay City and Santa Rosa, summarises it as "Monitors and evaluates inbound and outbound interaction quality. Tracks issues in the quality monitoring systems or tools and analyzes the results. Provides feedback to improve performance and develops training programs." Its duties: "Analyzes and audits call recordings (both inbound and outbound) in order to provide trend data and feedback to call center team leaders and senior management", "Ensures the call center agents adhere to pre-determined quality assurance standards and the business's standard operating procedures", "Collaborate with supervisors to share call quality performance issues and provide regular reports on overall performance and trends" and "Develop materials and process documentation to support training, as needed".
Acquire BPO's Quality Analyst listing for Pasig, reporting to a "QA Supervisor or Sr. Quality Analyst", shows what those lines mean in practice. The analyst does "Live or recorded monitoring of agent interactions (both voice and non-voice)", must be "Meeting the required number of evaluations on a daily, weekly, and/or monthly basis", provides "accurate and impartial judgement on all transaction evaluations", runs "Regular coaching sessions with agents to reinforce good behavior and reform opportunities", reports "critical errors to Operations, Training, and HR", attends "administrative hearings and deliberations resulting from the critical error callouts", is "certifying agents prior to official endorsement to Operations" after training, sits in calibration sessions and sends "relevant minutes and variance reports after each session", takes "proper action on disputes filed against transaction evaluations", and, when needed, goes back on the phones: the listing ends with "taking in calls and/or providing back-office support" as a duty. Concentrix's Senior Quality Evaluator adds the productivity side, "Meet departmental productivity requirements (e.g. number of calls monitored per month, number of emails evaluated, etc.)", and the requirement to "complete phone time to keep current on programs".
Three things in those listings are what agents most misunderstand about QA. The analyst has a quota of evaluations, so a monthly score rests on a small sample and one bad call moves it. Critical errors, the auto-fail items, go to HR as well as to Operations, which is why a compliance miss can arrive as a notice to explain rather than a coaching session. And scores can be disputed, through calibration, which the listings treat as a formal duty rather than a favour. The QA glossary entry explains scorecards, auto-fails and calibration from the agent's side.
The bar: iQor asks for "1 or more years of call center experience" and a high school diploma; Acquire for "at least two years' experience". Above the analyst sit the quality supervisor and manager, six listings at two employers: iQor's Supervisor Quality - Call Center wants "3 or more years of call center experience" plus "1 or more years of call quality experience", and its Manager Quality five years. Pay: Indeed's Philippine average for a quality analyst is ₱29,871 a month from 457 reported salaries, updated 19 September 2026. That is an all-industry figure, not a BPO one, and it sits above Indeed's team leader average, which is the point the salary guide makes about the specialist tier: an experienced QA on a complex account can out-earn a new team leader. Live openings: quality analyst roles on the board.
Trainer, real-time analyst, workforce: the other ways off the phones
Two more specialist titles take agents off the queue, and both are advertised more often than SME. The trainer, nine listings from three employers, mostly iQor's Trainer I - Call Center: "Conducts new hire classes on a regular basis, including the preparation of all training materials and facilities associated with each class", "Conducts recurrent training classes, meetings, and seminars during times of policy, procedure, and/or protocol updates", and works "with internal Quality Assurance teams to conduct informal/formal training needs assessments, identify training gaps, and drive improvements". The bar is "1 or more years of training experience in call center" and a high school diploma.
Workforce management and real-time analysis, 26 listings from nine employers, run the schedules and the intraday queue. Concentrix's Real Time Management Associate will "use monitoring systems to ensure appropriate staffing levels and agent availability", "Inputs intraday corrections and exceptions into systems for agent time off and absences" and "Monitors inbound volume for unusual activity", and requires "Minimum one year experience in a call center". iQor's Workforce Management Analyst plans "schedules that would ensure staffing requirement and commitments are fulfilled", decides "the capacity to approve PTO/VL request", and asks for "Prior call / contact center experience, 1 year minimum required" and "High level of proficiency with Excel". This is the role that decides whether your leave gets approved; the RTA glossary entry explains it from the floor.
Team leader job description
Forty-five listings on the board are team leader or supervisor roles, 66 openings from 14 employers, and the naming splits by employer: Concentrix says Team Leader, iQor says Supervisor Operations - Call Center, ISTA Solutions says Team Lead. The job is the same, and Concentrix's Team Leader, Operations listing for Quezon City describes it most completely. The team leader is "Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of a group of call center associates including work and attendance monitoring", must "Effectively coach direct reports on their performance on a regular basis to ensure performance metrics are achieved at a minimum weekly", will "Identify performance related issues, develop an action plan for improvement, implement corrective action, up to and including termination of employment", must "Ensure service delivered to our customers meets contractual Key Performance Indicator ('KPIs') and financial expectations", and takes escalations. The career level description carries the line every new team leader learns the hard way: "Typically does not spend more than 20% of time performing the work supervised." You are no longer measured on your own calls.
The Philippine addendum on the same listing is the part the title hides. In the Philippines the team leader will "Manage the employment status of call center associates and participate in the transfer, promotions or regularization of call center associates", exercises "authority to manage the employment status of a group of employees (firing, promotion, regularization, etc.)", and "The Team Leader's role is a managerial level position, a position reposed with trust and confidence". That last phrase tracks the Labor Code, whose just causes for dismissal include "Fraud or willful breach by the employee of the trust reposed in him by his employer or duly authorized representative", and the listing is placing the team leader in the class of employee to whom that ground most readily applies. iQor's Supervisor Operations listing puts the same duties in plainer words: "Hiring, training, and preparing call center representatives", "Monitoring and evaluating agent performance, providing learning or coaching opportunities, and taking corrective action, if necessary", and "Drives continuous improvement through trend reporting analysis and metrics management".
The bar varies more than the pay. Concentrix asks for "four years of relevant experience" and prefers an associate's degree; iQor for "3 or more years of call center experience" plus "1 or more years of supervisory experience"; ISTA Solutions for "1 - 2 years BPO Experience in a Voice Account" and "At least 6 months team lead / supervisory experience"; Infinit-O for "at least 1 year of experience"; DXC Technology for "5+ years of relevant work experience". Pay: Indeed's Philippine team leader average is ₱28,233 a month from 730 reported salaries, updated 19 September 2026, all industries; against the customer service representative average of ₱21,224 that is a step of about ₱7,000. What the step costs in shift allowance and incentive structure is the subject of the team leader salary article. Live openings: team leader roles on the board.
Operations manager and above
Eleven listings from four employers sit above the team leader. iQor's Manager Operations - Call Center requires "5 or more years of call center experience" and its Senior Manager Operations eight; Concentrix's Operations Manager pooling listing prefers more than seven years of experience, at least two of them in progressive management, and lists "Handle a team of team leaders" among the duties. These are the roles the leadership tier reports into, and the point at which the title stops being a job description and becomes an account.
How to read a BPO job description
Every listing above has the same four parts, and knowing which one to read first saves an application. The summary paragraph is marketing. The responsibilities list is the job, and the verbs tell you the metrics: "meet", "ensure", "adhere" and "monitor" each map to a line on a scorecard, which the KPI glossary decodes. The requirements list is where "required" and "preferred" are two different words: on this board 53 of the 137 agent-level listings say experience is preferred or a plus, and 40 state a minimum, so the same title can be open to a first-time applicant at one employer and closed at the next. And the career framework or career level paragraph, where an employer includes one, tells you the rung: Concentrix's runs from "Starter without sustained metric performance levels" for the specialist to "supervises subordinates to set priorities" for the team leader. Read it, and you know where the title sits before the recruiter tells you. The questions the interview will then ask are in the call center interview guide.
Common questions
01What is a BPO job description?
A BPO job description is the employer's statement of what a role does, what it is measured on and what it requires, usually in four parts: a summary, a responsibilities list, a requirements list and, at larger employers, a career level paragraph. On the Philippine job board on 25 September 2026 the titles ran from agent, CSR, associate and specialist at the first rung, through subject matter expert, quality analyst, trainer and workforce analyst in the specialist tier, to team leader or supervisor and operations manager in leadership.
02What is the difference between a CSR and a call center agent?
None in the work. CSR, customer service representative, is one of several titles employers give the first rung; the same job is advertised as a customer care specialist, customer service associate or simply agent. Among 137 agent-level listings on the board, "call center agent" appeared in no title at all, while representative, specialist, associate and customer care appeared in 34, 34, 20 and 31.
03What does a quality analyst do in a BPO?
Monitors and scores a sample of agent calls, chats and emails against a quality form, meets a quota of evaluations, coaches agents on the results, reports critical errors to operations and HR, runs calibration sessions so scores mean the same thing across analysts, handles score disputes, and certifies new hires before they are endorsed to operations. Employers on the board ask for one to two years of call center experience for the role.
04How do you become an SME in a BPO?
Usually by designation rather than application. Only two subject matter expert vacancies were advertised on the whole board, against 21 listings that mention the SME in other roles' duties. The path is tenure and consistently high quality scores on one account, then being made the escalation point and coach for that account, often with an allowance rather than a new contract.
05What experience do you need to be a team leader in a BPO?
It depends on the employer more than the job. Listings on the board ask for anywhere from one year of experience (Infinit-O) through one to two years on a voice account plus six months of supervisory experience (ISTA Solutions) and three years of call center experience plus one supervisory (iQor) to four years (Concentrix) and five (DXC Technology). Most name the same duties: supervision and attendance, weekly coaching, corrective action, KPIs and escalations.
06Which BPO title pays the most below manager?
On Indeed's Philippine averages read on 25 September 2026, a quality analyst (₱29,871 from 457 reports) sits above a team leader (₱28,233 from 730), and a subject matter expert higher still (₱33,929) on a thin 52 reports. All three are all-industry figures, so the ranking is indicative; the consistent point is that the specialist tier is a pay step, not a sideways move.
